Kelsey Neubauer

Kelsey is a real estate reporter for Insider. She writes stories about housing affordability, where people are moving, prefab & modular construction, and tiny homes. Recently, her stories focus on accessory dwelling units in California, people who have made big moves, and why people are choosing to live in tiny homes

Her 2022 story "The online shopping frenzy pushed warehouses into Pennsylvania's once quiet Lehigh Valley. Unhappy locals are pushing back," was part of Insider's 11-story package "Warehouse Nation" that won the Society of American Business Editors and Writers' 2022 Best in Business award for explanatory journalism. She's also profiled one of the biggest figures in real estate, broke news about layoffs in the proptech sector, and wrote a story about Gen Zers living at home to be able to afford a luxury lifestyle. During her time as a real estate reporter at Insider, and in her previous job at Bisnow, several stories that she wrote or contributed to have won awards from the National Association of Real Estate Editors. 

Before becoming a business reporter, Kelsey covered crime, local politics, inequality, and immigration. Throughout college, she reported for VTDigger, and covered some of the biggest stories in Vermont. She's also reported for Documented New York, Newsday, the Miami Herald and The Real Deal.
